About CCTV Cameras

CCTV Cameras, also known as, Closed-Circuit Television Cameras offer home and business owners a way of providing surveillance for their properties and enhance their security to deter crime. Our range of CCTV cameras is equipped with high-resolution sensors, providing the best possible surveillance experience, including IR (Infrared) and full-colour cameras with white light for night images.

The two types of CCTV systems are IP and analogue. Some brands may refer to analogue systems as CVI or coax. IP cameras use network cables (CAT or Ethernet cables) to transmit video, audio, and power through a single cable. Analogue systems, which are older and more traditional, use coax cables for video and audio but require a separate 12V power supply.

CCTV cameras can come in many different styles depending on the requirements. These are commonly referred to as, Turret or Eyeball cameras, Bullet cameras, Anti-Vandel domes, PTZ (Pan, Tilit, Zoom) Camera or Speed Domes. You can also have specialised cameras like ANPR or Fisheye cameras.

Some CCTV cameras come with advanced features like motion detection, human or vehicle detection, intrusion or tripwire zones, face detection, and face recognition. These features provide accurate and reliable alerts to the user via mobile devices or desktop monitoring.

FAQs

What’s the difference between CCTV and video surveillance?

CCTV is offline and local, while video surveillance is remotely accessible via Wi-Fi and other wireless networks. A CCTV system stores data locally on a hard drive in a DVR. Video surveillance systems can store data locally or remotely via NVRs, cloud servers, NAS drives, or PCs, providing flexible storage options.

Is it better to have wired or wireless security cameras?

Wired cameras are more reliable and secure than wireless ones, which can suffer from signal dropouts. Wired systems typically store footage on a secure hard drive, while wireless cameras use SD cards in the camera itself. However, wireless cameras are ideal for setups where running cables isn’t feasible.

Does all CCTV cameras record voice?

Most security cameras have built-in microphones for voice recording. Both IP and Analogue cameras can have this feature enabled by the installer.
